Tameka Foster Launches Petition to Drain Lake Lanier A Decade After Son’s Death
Usher's ex-wife and fashion stylist, Tameka Foster, recently launched a petition urging for comprehensive measures to be taken to enhance safety and restore the condition of Georgia's Lake Lanier. The initiative, which has already gained over 2,000 signatures, comes over a decade after the tragic death of her 11-year-old son, Kile Glover.
July marked 11 years since the deadly incident occurred. Kile died of his injuries on July 21, 2012, two weeks after he was hit by a jet ski driven by a family friend.
Foster paid tribute to her late son on Instagram, announcing the Change.org petition, telling her supporters, "Let's ensure a safer future by demanding improved safety measures, better zoning, and the removal of haunted debris from the lake.”
Foster asked that her followers "Join me in signing the petition and sharing this vital cause.,” before adding, “Together, we can create a fresh start and bring about lasting transformation."
The 52-year-old is asking that the reservoir be drained, cleaned, and restored with safety measures "to ensure the well-being of all individuals engaging in personal watercraft and recreational activities," noting that “is not only necessary but also an opportunity to honor the memory of those who have lost their lives and prevent further tragedies.”
Lake Lanier is considered one of the most dangerous bodies of water in America, having claimed 700 lives since its creation in the late 50s. Causes of death include boating collisions, drownings, and boating under the influence.
