Jill Scott Scores First No. 1 Album
Jill Scott's soulful R&B has reached a new high: the singer earned her first ever No. 1–selling album on the Billboard 200 this week with her fourth effort, The Light of the Sun.
The new album has sold an impressive 135,000 copies since it was released last Tuesday, June 21. Scott, who delivered a crowd-pleasing performance at the 2011 BET Awards, will have the opportunity to celebrate with thousands of fans this weekend, as she'll be appearing in New Orleans as a headlining performer at the 2011 Essence Music Festival.
Last week's No. 1, the Eminem/Royce Da 5'9'' collaboration Hell: The Sequel, dips five spots to No. 6, selling 63,000 copies in its second week.
Pitbull has his debut just below the dynamic duo, placing at No. 7 with his new effort Planet Pit. The star-studded album features appearances by Ne-Yo, Chris Brown, T-Pain, Jamie Foxx, Kelly Rowland and others. The Latino rapper's sixth studio recording sold 55,000 copies in its first week.
