Atlanta Falcons Drop The Ball With New Hype Song Featuring Rotimi, Fans Say

“Rise Up” faced harsh criticism.

Atlanta Falcons fans are showing no love for the team's new hype song featuring singer and actor Rotimi. The team appears to have fumbled with the Sept. 9 release of its new song, “Rise Up.”

Several Twitter users were unsparing in their criticism of the video, with many puzzled by the selection of Rotimi when there are plenty of artists native to Atlanta – Rotimi was born Olurotimi Akinosho in New Jersey. According to Bossip.com, the Falcons have partnered in recent years with celebrities like Jermaine Dupri and Ludacris with links to Atlanta’s culture.

Some went so far as to blame the singer for the Falcons’ 27-26 loss Sunday to the New Orleans Saints: “Rise Up” appears to mimic Wiz Khalifa’s popular “Black and Yellow” by repeating the Falcons’ team colors in the chorus. Black and yellow are the team colors of the NFL’s Pittsburgh Steelers. Wiz is from Pittsburgh and wasn’t trying to create a team song.

USA Today’s Prince J. Grimes wrote, “This isn’t a knock on Rotimi” but a case of “the song trying too hard.”
