[Update] Look: Matt Barnes Speaks Out on Allegations He Choked a Woman in This IG Post
Update: Before you rush to judgment about whether Matt Barnes choked a woman inside a New York City nightclub, the Sacramento Kings' forward wants everyone to know that there's "two sides to a story."
The NBA veteran took to his Instagram account to say just that and more Monday afternoon, after he was accused of assaulting a woman and her friends at the Avenue nightclub in New York City during the wee hours of Monday morning.
Barnes's rep had previously stated that the Kings forward was only acting in self defense after being attacked, but here's Matt's official first statement from his own mouth.

TMZ Sports first reported that the New York Police Department (NYPD) wants a word with the Sacramento Kings' forward after he allegedly choked a woman inside an NYC nightclub during the wee hours of Monday morning following the Kings' road loss to the New York Knicks on Sunday night.
"He's being sought [in connection to an assault at Avenue Nightclub]," NYPD Detective Ort told BET.com over the phone Monday.
Sources additionally told TMZ that police responded to a 911 call just past midnight at Avenue Nightclub where a man reportedly assaulted two women and another male. The celebrity website added that Barnes allegedly choked one of the women during an argument, before punching the other two individuals as they tried to interfere.
But Barnes is telling a completely different story.
A rep for the Kings forward told TMZ that Matt was acting in self defense to protect himself from the violent group in the VIP section of the nightclub.
Barnes's rep says the NBA player was having fun with his Kings teammate DeMarcus Cousins when he accidentally "butt bumped" a woman in the adjacent VIP booth.
The rep adds that the woman responded by slapping him in the face and then several men with her proceeded to attack Barnes, who was allegedly knocked to the ground and choked by one of the males during the fracas, forcing him to defend himself.
TMZ did obtain footage of Barnes and Cousins allegedly after the encounter. In the video, Cousins both references Barnes being choked and could distinctly be heard saying, "Matt hit the s**t out this n***a!'
Take a look.
Barnes, 36, didn't wait around for cops to show up, leaving the area promptly.
However, the NYPD is actively investigating the alleged incident and still wants to speak with Barnes.
