LeVar Burton Claps Back at Caller’s Claim of Not Being Racist Due to Kunta Kinte Tattoo
In a world where many still believe that ignorance is bliss, LeVar Burton recently brought a dose of reality on social media to a man who made some suggestive statements on the British radio talk show LBC. The caller, James, shared his unsolicited thoughts on why he believes Kamala Harris became the current Vice President, attributing her success to the so-called "woke" culture and implying that her race and gender played a significant role.
The host, Ben Kentish, countered the caller's claims by highlighting Kamala Harris's qualifications, including her successful lawyer background and merit as Vice President. Despite Kentish's efforts, the caller argued that Harris attained her position as the 49th Vice President of the United States primarily because of her skin color.
In the clip, an interesting take happens when the caller shares he’s not racist due to having enslaved African, Kunte Kinte, tattooed on his arm.
"I have got a tattoo on my arm of Kunta Kinte, he was an African slave, right?" he expressed to Kentish. "So I'm not racist in any way, shape, or form. ... He was a hero of mine. I'm not racist."
Burton joined the conversation on social media, quote-tweeting the video clip and tweeting, “Pic or it didn't happen."
He continued, “Racism is not simply a personality flaw, it’s also a spiritual defect.“
