Bobby Shmurda is among the latest wave of new artists to build buzz, and has been compared to Trinidad James due to their viral success and how quickly they both became signed to labels. But James doesn't think that he set the standard for that — it's all about the fans, he says.

James started rapping in 2011 and was signed to the legendary Def Jam in 2012. Bobby Shmurda signed to Epic this summer after he dropped Internet sensation "Hot N---a" earlier this year and introduced the world to his Shmoney Dance.

"I don't think that has nothing to do with me," Trinidad James told BET.com. "I think that has more to do with the Internet."

James explained, "What people don't realize is that they [are] the ones that choose to make somebody famous. An artist is just doing what they doing. Like if nobody never cared about his video, his dance, his moves or his charisma, nothing wouldn't matter. But the people care. I wouldn't know unless someone showed me and that person wouldn't know unless someone showed them. It's the people who make people famous. You don't make yourself famous is my personal opinion."

James recently parted ways with Def Jam, but he's taking it all in stride.
"It's like a marriage, every marriage don't work out and just because I love you, you love me doesn't mean we're supposed to be together," he said. "We went our separate ways because of creative differences and timing."

What's next for Trinidad James? A lot. In September alone he plans on releasing his next project, launching a campaign called "Soundcloud Mondays" and of course he has his hand in a bit of the fashion business.
