There are sometimes freaky coincidences and then there are some that are just odd coincidences.

It’s hard to say exactly where NBA draft night fell for twins Marcus and Markieff Morris. According to Yahoo! Sports, the former Kansas Jayhawks forwards were born seven minutes apart with Markieff leading the way. And as luck would have it, they were drafted 7 minutes and 13 seconds apart Thursday night.

In a bit of a stunner, Markieff was drafted ahead of his more celebrated brother and teammate at No. 13 overall by the Phoenix Suns. Then with the very next pick the Houston Rockets selected Marcus, the Big 12 Player of the Year who had been projected as a likely lottery pick.

“Maybe when I’m 60 I’ll tell him I got one on him,” Markieff said.

That will likely be a story Marcus will enjoy, as his happiness for his brother was obvious Thursday night when Markieff’s name was called. Marcus burst into tears as the two embraced and he later watched Markieff make his way to the podium.

“I am just so happy for him,” Marcus said.

This will now obviously be an adjustment for both that extends beyond stepping up in level of competition. The two have never played apart, starring together in high school in New Jersey and then with the Jayhawks.

“It ain’t the end of the world. We’ll see each other again,” Marcus said. “I will send him some flowers and some fruit.”
