You Won't Believe Who Aaron Hernandez's New Lawyer Represented
It's notorious enough that Aaron Hernandez was convicted of the first-degree murder of Odin Lloyd and is spending life in prison without the possibility of parole.
But in hopes of reversing his fate, the former New England Patriots' star tight end is reaching down to new levels of infamy.
ESPN reported Wednesday that Hernandez has hired Jose Baez to spearhead his new legal team in attempt to lead his appeal of his 2015 murder conviction and also his defense in his double-homicide trial.
If the name sounds familiar it's because Baez is the same lawyer who got Casey Anthony an acquittal after she was accused of killing her own 2-year-old daughter, Caylee.
Hernandez isn't stopping with just Baez, either. The rest of his bolstered legal team is also set to include a Harvard law professor Ronald S. Sullivan Jr. and Alex Spiro, who represented NBA player Thabo Sefolosha's case against New York City police.
Despite a brand new legal squad, Hernandez will be hard-pressed to reverse his situation. A 2015 application for an appeal of his murder conviction was already denied, so it remains to be seen whether the new appeal — filed last month — is accepted.
That being said, Hernandez still awaits trial on double-homicide charges over the deaths of two men outside a Boston nightclub in 2012. Just like the Lloyd case, Hernandez has pleaded not guilty.
For what it's worth, Baez is already talking a good game — as most notorious lawyers are known for.
"We understand that numerous reports of our client's alleged activity have been published, but we ask the public to afford Mr. Hernandez the presumption of innocence and let the facts unfold in a court of law," Baez said in a statement Wednesday, as reported by ESPN.
Think hiring Anthony's infamous lawyer will help reverse Hernandez's fate?
