Mandisa's Cause of Death Revealed, Validating Her Father's Beliefs

The new report indicates that self-harm was not a factor in the singer's untimely death.

Mandisa's long-awaited cause of death provides insight into what happened to her.

In April, the singer, who competed on "American Idol," was found dead in her home at age 47. A new report obtained by PEOPLE reveals how she died.

According to the document, Mandisa died from complications of class III obesity, citing her death as natural.

The report also indicates she was found dead on April 18 and "was last known alive approximately three weeks" earlier.

"Class III obesity, formerly known as morbid obesity, is a complex chronic disease in which a person has a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or higher or a BMI of 35 or higher and is experiencing obesity-related health conditions," per the Cleveland Clinic.

When reports of her death surfaced in May, her father, John Hundley, theorized she didn't harm herself intentionally leading up to her passing, as cited by the Christian Post.

“But here's what I think happened,” he explained during her funeral service on April 27 at Brentwood Baptist Church in Nashville, Tennessee. “Mandisa fell down in her bedroom. They found her on the floor. If you look from the rear of her bed, she was laying on the left side. It’s clear that's where she was laying, there was a couple of big rugs there and some clothes. On the right side of the bed, front, was this nightstand. I found her phone on the right side of the bed. There was no way for Mandisa to get around the bed, go out there and get a phone to call for help."

“She did not harm herself,” he asserted. “As she said, Mandisa loved the Lord, and the Lord loved Mandisa.
