MC Lyte Goes Vinyl for New Album, LEGEND
MC Lyte is getting ready to drop her first album in over eleven years, and its no surprise she's doing it in a way that pays homage to her hip hop roots. The Brooklyn MC, who made history in 1988 when she became the first female rapper to release a full-length album (the critically-acclaimed Lyte as a Rock) will soon treat fans to LEGEND, her latest word.
What's more, LEGEND will be available for one day in vinyl format only, with an optional digital download for those who purchase the record. The promotion is to support independent record stores nationwide for Record Store Day, April 18. Paul McCartney, The White Stripes and Foo Fighters are among other artists with exclusive releases scheduled.
LEGEND already boasts a Billboard charting single, "Dear John" featuring Oscar winner Common, and Lyte's latest single is "Check."
Her last album was 2003's Da Underground Heat, Vol. 1. In the intervening years, the rapper has focused on her acting career in shows like Strong Medicine and Half & Half, her company Sunni Gyrl, and her service as the first Black president of the Grammy's Los Angeles chapter and with the Hip Hop Sisters Foundation.
