Texas Parent Wants To Ban A Book About Michelle Obama
A group of conservative parents in Texas are calling for books to be banned, including a book about Michelle Obama.
According to Yahoo, a parent in Texas’ Katy School District is claiming the book about the former first lady is “reverse racism.” No examples were given of how the book is “racist” and it’s unclear which specific book is being targeted for a ban.
Other parents are calling for books referencing LGBT+ and non-binary youth to be banned. One parent reportedly said “Why are our libraries filled with pornography?”
The banning of books has been happening all over the country, as a reaction to critical race theory, which is not being taught to children.
Critical race theory is a legal theory by former Harvard Law professor Derrick Bell, who died in 2011. CRT is a graduate-level course that examines the ways in which race – sometimes unfairly or even unintentionally – intersects with U.S. institutions, according to The New York Times.
