106-Year-Old Woman to Receive High School Diploma
A 106-year-old woman from Columbus, Pennsylvania, is finally getting her high school diploma.
Reba Williams had completed her 12 years of education and should have graduated with the class of 1925 or 1926, but because she refused to read a book assigned by a teacher her senior year, she wasn't allowed to graduate.
Her daughter Lavata Williams told the Mansfield News Journal that her mother "said the book was not worth reading and she'd already read it once and didn't like it and wasn't going to read it again."
Rita Dailey, a teacher in Williams' school district, brought up the situation with the Mount Vernon Board of Education, which voted to award Williams her diploma.
Williams response to her big achievement? "That's nice."
