Azealia Banks Returns to Twitter
Just four days after renouncing hip hop and deleting her Twitter account, Azealia Banks has already rejoined the social network... and released a new rap song.
The 21-year-old artist from Harlem resumed tweeting yesterday, announcing a new video for her song "Liquorice" and dropping a brand new track called "Aquababe."
When she quit Twitter late last week, Banks complained that the microblogging service, on which she has frequently courted controversy in the past, made her "entirely too accessible." She vowed to switch to Tumblr instead. At some point in the intervening days, however, she apparently changed her mind.
Though she didn't provide an explanation for the about face, on Twitter Banks quickly dove into promo mode. "Aquababe," produced by Machinedrum, is the first song from her upcoming mixtape, Fantasea.
The track, with an ebullient bass-heavy beat and Banks rapping like a young Foxy Brown, is pure hip hop, although the artist says she no longer wishes to be a rapper or associate with "the rap game." On SoundCloud, where Banks posted the song, the genre is listed as "Vocal."
