Protesters Hit The Streets of Sacramento After Violent Murder Of Stephon Clark By Police

Officers were forced to shut down admission to a Sacramento Kings game.

The city of Sacramento has been flooded with demonstrators protesting the fatal police shooting of Stephon Clark, who was shot at 20 times by police officers in the yard of the home where he lived with his grandparents.

On Thursday, protestors began blocking the entrances to a downtown basketball arena while chanting “black lives matter.” Eventually, the area was so flooded with protests, police were forced to shut down admission to a Sacramento Kings game.

The Sacramento Police Department said at 7:39 p.m. local time that no one else would be allowed into the game against the Atlanta Hawks “due to unforeseen circumstances around Golden 1 Center,” reported The Washington Post.

Protesters formed a human chain in front of arena doorways, preventing thousands of fans from entering.

“Due to law enforcement being unable to ensure ticketed fans could safely enter the arena, the arena remains closed and we ask fans outside to travel home,” the Kings said in a Thursday night statement.

  • Sacramento Kings owner Vivek Randivé spoke to the arena during the protests

“We stand before you — old, young, black white, brown — and we are all united in our commitment,” Ranadive said. “We recognize that it’s not just business as usual, and we are going to work really hard to bring everybody together to make the world a better place, starting with our own community, and we are going to work really hard to prevent this kind of tragedy from happening again.”
