'Good Times' Reimagined: Meet the New Evans Family in Netflix's Animated Revival

Join Reggie, Beverly, Junior, Grey, and Dalvin in the struggle to thrive in the face of adversity in the last Chicago housing project. A star-studded cast brings this modern twist on a classic sitcom to life, available April 12.

“Good Times” was a 70’s sitcom about the Evans family’s struggle to make ends meet but finding those good times along the way. The world fell in love with each and every family member, especially J.J.: Dynomiiiiite! He became a cultural icon. It’s time to revisit the magic “Good Timhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BMA2Kc7TiO0es” created but with a twist.

Netflix is offering an animated reboot of the Norman Lear series or an update on the latest generation of the Evans family with “Good Times.”

This cartoon chronicles the new Evans family’s scratching and surviving. Led by Reggie Evans (a cab driver) and his wife Beverly, the Evans live in the projects–apparently one of the last remaining housing projects in Chicago. They have a teenage son, Junior, who is an artist, a young daughter, Grey, who is an activist, and a drug-dealing infant son named Dalvin.

Much like the “Good Times” of yesteryear, this generation of the Evans family is keeping their heads above water, too, especially in a system designed to keep people like them drowning. This series is filled with stars: J.B. Smoove (Reggie Evans), Yvette Nicole Brown (Beverly Evans), Jay Pharoah (Junior Evans), Marsai Martin (Grey Evans), Gerald “Slink” Johnson (Dalvin Evans) and Rashida “Sheedz” Olayiwola (Lashes by Lisa). All ten episodes will be available on Netflix on Friday, April 12.
