André 3000 Announces Debut Solo Project 'New Blue Sun'
André ‘3000’ Benjamin is gearing up to release his debut solo LP, “New Blue Sun,” on Friday (Nov 17), his first complete studio project in almost two decades, but fans shouldn’t expect to hear any rap lyrics.
According to a new interview with NPR, the upcoming 87-minute musical experience will not feature André either singing or rapping. Instead, the rapper plays the flute, contrabass, Mayan, bamboo, and other digital wind instruments.
The new project is co-produced by 3000 and multi-instrumentalist Carlos Niño and features other instrumentalists, including Deantoni Parks, Diego Gaeta, Matthewdavid, V.C.R, Diego Gaeta, Jesse Peterson, and Mia Doi Todd. Notable track titles include “I swear, I Really Wanted To Make A 'Rap' Album But This Is Literally The Way The Wind Blew Me This Time.”
During his hiatus from hip-hop, the Grammy Award-winning emcee and one-half of the iconic rap duo Outkast grew a reputation for wandering around playing his flute. The emcee told the outlet, “I laugh at it because my homies in Atlanta, we'll talk, and they'll be like, man, you know n—gas think you crazy to f—k around with this flute.”
He added, “And I'm always in on the joke. So, don't ever think that I don't know how people think or look at me in a certain way. I understand. If I was on the outside, I would feel the same way.”
