Chris Rock Comforted By Wanda Sykes Amid Will Smith Slap
Chris Rock was welcomed with open arms from some of his A-list celebrity friends amid the Will Smith slap at the 94th Academy Awards on Sun (Mar. 27).
According to Page Six, Rock was comforted by Oscars co-host Wanda Sykes and fellow comedian Sacha Baron Cohen at music manager Guy Oseary’s house for an after party.
“Wanda Sykes was his wingman for the night. He was sitting at Guy’s dining table, and people lined up to console him and offer support,” Page Six notes.
A photo was posted on Oseary’s Instagram page that showed Rock, Woody Harrelson, Robert DeNiro and Oseary.
Several people in the comments responded to the post with “#teamchrisrock.”
In case you missed it, while Rock was presenting the Best Documentary award at the 2022 Oscars he was slapped across the face by Oscar-winning actor Will Smith after a joke was made about Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith.
The King Richard actor posted a public apology on his Instagram page on Monday (Mar. 28) to Rock and The Academy for his actions.
"Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada's medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally," he wrote. "I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness."
A formal review is currently being conducted surrounding the evening's by The Academy.
