Travis Scott Says His Fall Through Drake's Stage Wasn't What It Looked Like
Among other identifiers, Travis Scott is described best as hip-hop’s sound-hypnotizing, otherworldly Houston-native with a mystifying presence. So that might also explain why, during his stage blunder at Drake’s concert, he now identifies as a magician — not a klutz.
In his new cover story interview with British GQ Style, the Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight rapper said that his slip through a hole in the stage wasn’t exactly a fall — it was flying.
“I didn’t fall, dude, I flew,” Scott said. “I was floating. I don’t fall. S**t, nothing happened. Floating is amazing. It’s like getting in a plane. I just flew, man. I’m a magician, like David Blaine.”
Handing props to Drake, a fellow magician as he put it, he added his praise for the OVO honcho’s talent and big brother guidance. If you’ll recall, Drizzy gave full refunds for all fans at the Boy Meets World Tour concert in question following the tumble. The life-sized globe used for Drizzy’s set was also damaged as a result of Scott’s plummet through the stage hole.
AstroWorld, La Flame’s next project, and his Houston hometown hero Beyoncé were also subjects of interest. Explaining his adoration of the city’s culture and the precedent Queen Bey has set for all artists of the Texas metropolis, he added that Houston is also well-deserving of its own commemoration.
“It needs to have its own monument, its own moment for artists like me, artists like Beyoncé who set it off,” he said. “Beyoncé is like the highest level. We all reach for that level.”
Fans will be able to read more of the enigmatic artist’s personal testaments in British GQ Style’s Spring/Summer issue when it goes on sale Thursday (March 16).
