T.I. would like to remind fans of trap music to put a little respect on his name. After all, as he suggests, if it weren't for his contributions to the genre, the landscape of popular music today would look significantly different.

During a recent sit down with Angie Martinez, the Atlanta rap legend talked about how, despite it not being a well-known fact, he played an integral role to the formation of the genre of trap music we know and love today.

"A lot of people they don't really [...] know that I created trap music," he begins. "There was no such thing as trap prior to... no such thing, it didn't exist."

He then brings up the appropriate receipts to further make his point, saying that his 2003 album — the second in his discography — is where it all began. Prior to the release of his project, Trap Muzik, the sound was no where to be found in the game.

"Because the first album I did [...] people who heard it, they didn't know where I was from," he elaborates. "'Is he from Atlanta? He raps too good. Is he from New York? Where is he from?' So, Trap Muzik was like establishing a sound, like this is who I am."

While some haters may not be convinced T.I. was the originator of the genre, to deny his influence on rap music would be an ignorant disservice.
