J. Cole Earns His First Platinum Album
J. Cole’s 2014 Forest Hills Drive album is officially platinum, Hip-Hop N More reports. Cole’s third studio album, which was released last December, reached the milestone with 7,773 copies sold this week, including streaming.
The album is Cole's first official platinum album and the second rap release to hit the mark this year after Drake’s If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late reached a million last month.
While Cole and Drake are leading in hip hop sales, other rap acts could very well go platinum this year. Among the contenders are Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly, which has sold over 600,000 copies since March, and Nicki Minaj’s The PinkPrint, hovering near the same numbers as Lamar’s release, though her album has been out since last December.
Cole, meanwhile, has been having a year of quiet victories with 2014 Forest Hills Drive debuting at No.1 on the Billboard 200 as well as a Janet Jackson collaboration and a successful tour.
Young Simba can’t stop winning.
