Holly Robinson Peete’s Whirlwind Mother’s Day Weekend

"The Talk" host gets an award, hits Vegas and gets flowers from Justin Bieber.

This past Friday, May 6, in honor of her work with MCFI’s Dr. Lisa Masterson (The Doctors), Holly Robinson Peete received the Humanitarian Award at the Mothers in Style event benefiting Maternal Fetal Care International in Santa Monica. After buying a trip to Kenya in a live auction at an event a few years ago, she accompanied Masterson on a mission there to treat pregnant women. Robinson has been an active supporter of the cause ever since. But the award wasn’t the only nice thing Robinson got that day.

Justin Bieber sent me some Mother’s Day flowers today,” she said, noting that she thought it was a prank until she called his manager to verify. Bieber “sent the most lovely note. He said, ‘I love mothers; you’re a mother and every mom should have flowers.’”

But Robinson was just getting started. “Somehow I got talked into going to the Manny Pacquiao fight in Vegas on Saturday night. All the ladies from The Talk are going, and I’m gonna hang out with my girls and my husband after. So after being up all night and coming back to L.A. Sunday morning I might have a Mother’s Day hangover,” says Peete. She also mentioned she planned “to do a little spa thing” on Sunday.

As the Vegas trip proves, Peete and her Talk costars have become close friends. “We have fun, we’re connected, we’re genuinely interested in what each other is doing. We’re all different animals on that show, and each day it takes on another shade, another color.  We’re really enjoying it.”

Justin Bieber, Hilary Swank, children’s rights advocate Marian Wright Edelman and Myrtle Evers-Williams, the widow of civil rights hero Medgar Evers, are among her favorite guests so far, while “personal favorite” Denzel Washington and Michelle Obama top her guest wish list. “She’s the one we all want to get. I’m working her social secretary. I’m working all my angles,” said Peete, who as the mother of an autistic child is grateful for the platform The Talk has given her autism awareness mission.
