Mekhi Phifer is the kind of actor who pops up everywhere, from indie movies to TV shows to big budget films, and even in Eminem's lyrics. The prolific star, best known by the mainstream for playing a doctor on ER, says that to survive in Hollywood you "can't just be one thing. You have to wear many hats."

Phifer will next be seen in Insurgent, opposite Shailene Woodley. We sat down with Phifer to talk about the film and to reflect on some of the highlights of his career, including all the famous women he's had to kiss on camera. The actor played the diplomat when we asked him which R&B diva whose boyfriend he has played — Beyoncé in Carmen: A Hip Hopera and Brandy in I Still Know What You Did Last Summer — did he have more fun making out with. "Both were great, both had incredible sex appeal and know how to work their mouth," he joked.
