Babyface Receives Legacy Award at Apollo Spring Benefit, Cherishes Sons' Pride
Grammy Award-winning musician Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds recently shared a proud dad moment while accepting an award for his career and his impact ahead of Father’s Day.
The veteran industry figure was recently presented with the inaugural legacy award during Apollo Theater’s annual spring benefit in Harlem, New York. The 65-year-old star was recognized for his contributions as a singer, songwriter, and music producer for over four decades.
While accepting the award presented by rapper and actor Fat Joe, Babyface acknowledged his two young adult sons, Brandon and Dylan.
The “Seven Seas” singer noted, “The thing that made me most proud is that I had two of my boys with me, Dylan and Brandon, they were with me, and they both came up to me and they said, 'Dad, I'm so proud to be your son.’”
The star added, "I have to tell you that that's the best gift that I could ever get. Just to hear that from their mouths straight to me.”
Babyface shared his personal journey in connection with his award, stating, "And to know that I've done something, not just for the world, but I did something for my kids that made them proud. And that's what we're here for."
He went on to express gratitude, mentioning "everybody," though he admitted, "the specific names have just gone out of my head."
"I'm so taken by this, and I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. I appreciate it. Thank you so much," he concluded.
Usher was also recognized at the event, which featured musical performances from Jordin Sparks, Karyn White, Avery Wilson, and others.
