Movie News: Carl Franklin Boards Tupac Biopic, Mariah Carey Lands Christmas Film

Plus, Barkhad Abdi to star in Wolf Who Cried Boy.

A day after John Singleton announced he would be putting his involvement in the Tupac biopic on pause, another director has replaced him on the project. Carl Franklin, who directed Denzel Washington in 1995’s Devil in a Blue Dress, will take over for Singleton, The Wrap reports. Both Singleton and production company Morgan Creek acknowledged creative differences over the project.

CELEBRITY BIOPICS THAT GOT IT RIGHT

Meanwhile, Mariah Carey is getting into the Christmas spirit again. Carey, whose rendition of "All I Want for Christmas" has sold over 14 million copies to date, will star in an as-yet-untitled Christmas movie for New Line Cinema. The project, which New Line boss Jonathan Shestack describes as "a little bit about how music can take you back in time,” will be executive produced by Carey's pal Brett Ratner
Lastly, Barkhad Abdi will have a chance to shine on the big screen again following his Oscar nominated turn in Captain Phillips. The Somali actor will star in The Wolf Who Cried Boy, a drama set in Detroit about the seedy underbelly of the scrapping industry. Abdi will soon be seen opposite Aaron Paul in Eye in the Sky and the crime drama Extortion.
