Katy Perry to Perform at Super Bowl XLIX Halftime Show
After much speculation and discussion, it has officially been confirmed that pop singer Katy Perry will perform at this year's Super Bowl halftime show.
According to Billboard, Perry bested the likes of Rihanna and Coldplay for the coveted performance slot. The league was reportedly asking artists under consideration to pay to perform since last year's broadcast set a new record with 111.5 million viewers tuning in, but the "Teenage Dream" singer gave a direct response to the claims, saying, "I'm not the kind of girl who would pay to play the Super Bowl."
Although Billboard readers ranked Perry low on their list of desired performers, the online publication stated a few good reasons justifying the singer's selection including her slew of hits, her worldwide appeal, and her — mostly — family-friendly music catalog.
Past performers include Prince, Michael Jackson, Beyoncé and, most recently, Bruno Mars.
