Cleveland Bus Driver Suspended After Punching Female Rider
A Cleveland bus driver has been suspended after a video showing the driver punching a female rider went viral.
The video, taken with a cellphone, shows the driver and the woman getting into an argument that eventually turned physical. When the bus was stopped, the driver can be seen getting out of his seat and delivering an uppercut to the passenger before ejecting her from the bus.
When the woman climbed back on the bus, the two continued to fight until other riders broke them up. The driver left the bus after passengers intervened.
The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority has identified the driver and female rider and are investigating the incident, though their names have not been released yet. They believe the fight occurred on Sept. 18.
"Upon identifying the driver, he was immediately suspended and removed from duty," said RTA spokeswoman Mary Shaffer in a statement. "His behavior is absolutely unacceptable. RTA apologizes to our customers for this incident."
Once the video went viral, it trended on Twitter under the hashtag #uppercut.
