‘RHOP’ Star Karen Huger Gets Two-Year Prison Sentence in DUI Case
“The Real Housewives of Potomac” star Karen Huger has been sentenced to two years in prison, with one year suspended, following her conviction in a drunk driving case.
The 61-year-old reality star appeared in Montgomery County Circuit Court on Wednesday (Feb. 26), dressed in all Black. In addition to the prison sentence, a judge also imposed five years of probation. Her husband of 28 years, Ray, was also in attendance.
Huger has 30 days to appeal the decision and 90 days to request a reconsideration. As she was taken into custody, she reassured her husband, Ray Huger, telling him, “You will be alright” and “God’s got you,” according to a source at the scene.
The sentencing follows Huger’s March 2024 arrest and is connected to an incident in which she crashed her vehicle into a street sign just three miles from her home.
Bodycam footage from the incident showed her visibly intoxicated, stumbling, slurring her words, and referencing “Real Housewives” executive producer Andy Cohen and former President Abraham Lincoln while speaking with officers. She ultimately admitted to drinking “a couple of beers” before driving.
Huger faced multiple charges, including DUI and DWI, reckless driving, failure to control vehicle speed, and driving with a suspended registration. Her former attorney, A. Scott Bolden, previously stated that while the legal team was “disappointed” in the verdict, Huger retained her right to appeal.
In January, she entered a private recovery program in Florida, citing a need to evaluate her use of antidepressants and alcohol. The program led to her missing the “RHOP” season 9 reunion taping, though she later appeared in pre-recorded videos.
