Megan Thee Stallion Launches Hot Girl Summer ‘20 With ‘Girls in the Hood’
Summer is here and Megan Thee Stallion is keeping the heat coming with her latest music offering, “Girls in the Hood.”
Megan first unveiled the single on social media on Wednesday (June 24). Taking to Twitter, the 25-year-old alerted her loyal legions of fans, the Hotties, that some new music was imminent. “Hotties get ready,” she teased. “[At] Midnight, y’all better go tf off.” Along with the announcement, the Houston rapper shared a 22-second snippet of the song over a video of herself twerking in a striped blue and white sundress.
Sampling the late Eazy-E and N.W.A’s 1987 classic, “Boyz-n-the-Hood,” Megan reminds us that she’s always been that chick.
“I don't stand outside 'cause I'm too outstandin’ / ‘Cause the girls in the hood are always hard / Ever since sixteen, I been havin' a job / Knowin' nothin' in life, but I gotta get rich,” she raps in one verse.
“Girls in the Hood” is the latest in a stream of releases that Megan has dropped off in 2020 following “Diamonds” with Normani for the Birds of Prey soundtrack, “FREAK” with Tyga, and her Suga EP in March that went No. 7 on Billboard.
In April, Megan unleashed her “Savage Remix” with Beyoncé that quickly overtook the charts, claiming the top spot on Billboard’s Hot 100.
Megan has been having a stellar year since the release of her acclaimed 2019 mixtape, Fever. She is up for five awards at the 2020 BET Awards, including Album of the Year, Best Female Hip Hot Artist, and Video of the Year.
