Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton continues to prove his naysayers wrong while setting rookie passing records in the process.

Newton completed 28 of 46 passes for 432 yards during the Panthers’ 30-23 loss to the reigning Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers on Sunday. It was the second time in as many weeks Newton has thrown for 400-plus yards as his rookie campaign has gotten off to an impressive start.

Newton’s 432 passing yards set a single mark for the Panthers and NFL rookies on Sunday. The 854 combined passing yards is the highest for a quarterback in his first two starts, by far surpassing Kevin Kolb’s 718 yards in 2007.

His back-to-back 400-plus passing games also put him in elite quarterback company with five others in league history: Dan Fouts, Dan Marino, Matt Cassel, Phil Simms and Billy Volek.

The only down side to Sunday’s game was that the Panthers lost again, dropping to 0–2 on the season. Newton, of course, went undefeated in his only season with the Auburn Tigers last season prior to being the No. 1 overall pick by the Panthers this past spring.

"I'm not the person to sit up here and say, 'Well, we have next time,'" Newton said to reporters after Sunday’s game. "I want to get it right, and I'm going to get it right right now."

Newton’s biggest concern from Sunday was the three interceptions he threw that could have been the difference in the Panthers’ second 7-point loss.

"I don't think I followed the No. 1 rule and that's protect the football," Newton said. "Throwing picks is one thing. But constant turnovers, it's not acceptable in this league. You can't expect to win if you turn the football over."
