Emmy-nominated Star Ayo Edebiri Shares An Embarrassing Moment from High School
Ayo Edebiri has become an industry darling taking Hollywood by storm with her amazing performance as Sydney, the ambitious sous-chef on the hit Hulu series, The Bear.
Edebiri is now starring in a high-school comedy, Bottoms. In the film, she plays one of two queer teens who start a high school fight club to meet girls and lose their virginity. They soon find themselves in over their heads when the most popular students beat each other up in the name of self-defense.
Since she's playing a high schooler, Edebiri shared her most embarrassing moment from that time in her youth.
"It's all pretty devastating," she told ELLE's YouTube series Thirst Trap, per PEOPLE. But she did pin it down to prom night. "Right before prom I got my eyebrows waxed for the first time and we can see these are not waxable eyebrows."
"But I got them waxed and the whole time [the aesthetician] was like, 'Your eyebrows are the worst eyebrows I've ever seen in my life. Like, why did you do this to yourself?' "
The Boston native said that she had an allergic reaction to the beauty treatment, causing swelling of her face.
"All my prom pictures are like the top half of my face is so puffy and also it was so humid that day and my hair is just like exploded because it's so, so humid," Edebiri reflected.
She also added that her prom dress wasn't a favorite either. "You know I got that dress from the Lord & Taylor clearance rack, like it's devastating [in the] photos."
Despite the challenges of high school life, the 27-year-old is now a rising star with an Emmy nomination and a guest appearance on Abbott Elementary, playing opposite Quinta Brunson as Janine's sister, Ayesha Teagues.
The actress, her co-star and frequent collaborator Rachel Sennott are currently starring in Bottoms, which is open to a limited release before expanding to additional screens on Sept. 1.
