Report: Jameis Winston May Not Attend 2015 NFL Draft
Jameis Winston, who may wind up being the No. 1 selection in the 2015 NFL Draft, is reportedly planning on not attending the event in Chicago.
According to Sports Illustrated's Monday Morning Quarterback and ESPN, the ex-Florida State University quarterback is planning on spending draft day with his family and friends in Alabama. Antonor Winston told ESPN that his son is leaning toward not showing up for the event, but that the decision isn't final just yet.
Earlier this month, Winston met with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and said he would love to remain in South Florida and play for the team, which also has the top pick in the upcoming draft.
"Being able to play three years in Florida, I would love to stay here in this great state," Winston, who also recently met with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, told the Bucs' website two weeks ago. "I've just got to take advantage of this blessing. It's not really important to me to be the first pick, but it is important to me to be picked. I believe that I have been blessed during my years at Florida State to win a national championship and just be a winning quarterback. And I believe this place — I would love to be here."
Ex-Oregon star Marcus Mariota is the other highly regarded QB in this year's draft class. Mariota meets with the Bucs on Monday. This year's draft is scheduled to be from April 30 through May 2.
