'The Ms. Pat Show': Love Comes at the Anointed Time, Not the Appointed Time

Denise falls for a man of God, while Allison falls out of love with Junebug.

Every black sitcom needs a church episode with big fruit basket hats and shady pastors. In episode two of "The Ms. Pat Show," Pat questions the intentions of a man who's convinced her to attend church twice in one year, while Denise falls for him. Pastor Jenkins (Flex Alexander) is a recent widower — two months, to be exact. Terry gets a bad vibe from him. The pastor's brother, Chauncey, reveals to Denise at his hair appointment that Pastor Jenkins doesn't believe in divorce, so when he's done with a woman, he offs her.

Terry overhears this and brings it before the congregation at the pastor's revival. The Pastor says his brother is lying out of jealousy, but the pastor's wife, Regina, barges into the church and accuses him of hiring a hitman to kill her. The only reason she's alive is because his check bounced. The pastor is promptly arrested, and Denise is single again.

Funniest exchange

Pat: "I gotta keep it real with you, Pastor, I hate church."

Pastor: "Say it ain't so. The way you look, I was gonna give you the lead solo next week."

Pat: "All fat b—--es can't sing."

Standout moment

Junebug, who's been playing stepfather to girlfriend Allison's newborn, is saddened when she decides to move in with the child's father. He apologizes to Pat for disrespecting her in the previous episode. She tells to never bring another pregnant h- in the house, although she admits, "H—s need love, too. That's why we love your auntie Denise," before embracing her son.
