Bill Maher Has Quentin Tarantino's Back Over Cop Comments
Quentin Tarantino is enemy number one for police unions, but he has some powerful people in his corner.
After Jamie Foxx spoke out in support of the director's comments about police brutality, Bill Maher also defended him on Real Time this week.
Echoing Tarantino's call for reform in police departments across the country, Maher offered some solutions: “One: Do a better job of weeding out the personality profile who becomes the bad cop. Because we all know that kid in school who had no friends, wasn’t popular, and thought ‘hmm if I was the hall monitor, I could lord it over people.’ It’s not that hard to stop that guy from becoming a cop," he said. "Two: Be more loyal to [what's] right than to cops. When a cop does a bad thing, don’t always be the thin blue line defending the cop no matter what he does.”
Maher wrapped up the conversation by echoing Tarantino's original statement, “You have to call murder 'murder,' even if it's from cops."
The trouble started last month, when Tarantino joined a rally against police brutality in New York and said, “I’m a human being with a conscience, and when I see murder I cannot stand by. And I have to the call the murdered the murdered and I have to call the murderers the murderers.”
Police across the country took offense and urged people to boycott Tarantino’s films. They have also ominously threatened Tarantino with a “surprise” between now and his premiere for The Hateful Eight. Jim Pasco, executive director of the Fraternal Order of Police said, “the right time and place will come up and we'll try to hurt him in the only way that seems to matter to him.”
Sounds like they're asking you to watch your back, Quentin.
