Just seconds before her boyfriend shot her to death, 49-year-old Lisa Fisher made a desperate plea to the toll worker on the Chicago Skyway, reported the Chicago Tribune.

"Help me," Fisher reportedly said in a low voice while her boyfriend Christopher Pena, 30, searched for change at the tollbooth on Wednesday.  

As the Chrysler slowly pulled through the gate, Fisher jumped out and started running away from the vehicle. Pena, who let the car continue to roll, also jumped out of the car and began shooting at Fisher. Once he hit her and she fell, he stood over her and shot her several more times, said police.

A nearby officer saw Pena running back to his car when he pulled up and questioned the man on the Skyway.

"What are you doing?" the officer asked him. "Let me see your hands."

As Pena turned to the officer, he raised the gun to his head and took his own life. Both Fisher and Pena were pronounced dead on the scene.

Although the situation between the couple turned into a deadly tragedy, Fisher’s family said everything seemed fine when they saw her on Tuesday.

"Everything seemed normal," Fisher’s oldest son Leon Williams, 30, told Chicago Tribune. "There was no indication that she was in any kind of trouble.

"She got in the car, and I'm sad to say that was the last time I saw her alive," Williams said. "She said, 'See you in the morning.'"
