Social Media Buzzes Over Keith Lee's Remarks on D.C. Food Scene
Keith Lee has added another city to his national food tour, bringing his family to the DMV.
During their week-long visit, the popular food critic dined at 12 restaurants in Washington, D.C. However, in a recent TikTok video, Lee revealed that he’ll only share a few experiences. “As a family and as a team, we decided not to post most of them... Many of those videos just weren’t constructive,” he explained.
According to WJLA, Lee went to various restaurants in Maryland, Virginia, and D.C. -- even getting up to Baltimore. He critiqued the D.C. food scene in one of his videos, suggesting that many restaurants are geared towards alcohol. "If you don't drink, it seems like it's slim pickings. I'm talking about everything. Alcohol, bottomless, topless...I don't drink, so I'm hungry," Lee commented while parked outside Cane on H Street NE. The remark quickly went viral, sparking backlash from social media users and industry insiders.
"I do not support, condone, or agree with tearing down these businesses," Lee said in another one of his food reviews. "While we personally may not have the best personal service experience, it does not mean you will have the same experience. It also don't mean go on Twitter and tear these businesses down. At the end of the day, business owners are people and you never know what people are going through."
