Serena Williams is currently gracing the cover of New York Magazine’s Fall Fashion issue and the tennis champion is giving us some serious gym inspiration. In her photo shoot, Williams poses in form-fitting black ensembles that show us just how fiercely she works to stay on top of her game. In one shot, she does a split across two bars all the while flaunting a six pack through a midriff-baring leotard.

Inside, Williams chats about her impressive career (she’s currently got her eye on making history by winning the upcoming U.S. Open and thus nabbing four grand slams in one calendar year) as well as continuing to take on the fashion industry once she retires from tennis. She’s already made moves to wedge herself as a formidable brand with her latest Serena’s Signature Statement Collection and her work through HSN.
When it came to fashion, it was her older sister Venus who encouraged her to enroll in design classes. While the ready-to-wear collection is full of fun outfits we could totally rock day or night, Williams admitted that her dream was to design wedding dresses.
“That was my first real love,” she said, “but then I was like, Listen. I’m playing professional tennis. I’ll just do athleticwear.”
