Vine Star Andrew Bachelor Is Going Hollywood
If you're over the age of 25 and don't spend your days scrolling through seconds-long videos on Vine, you've probably never heard of Andrew Bachelor, aka King Bach. But by this time next year, you will. The annointed King of Vine is going Hollywood, with a slew of roles in films and television planned for the coming year.
Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter, Bachelor says he has a movie with Martin Lawrence in the works, as well as a drama called Shot Callers, in which he stars opposite Omari Hardwick, already in the can. He's also developing a sitcom with sketch comedy titans Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele. "It's about cops," is all he'll reveal about that project.
How did a 25-year-old Jamaican kid born in Canada, who attended Florida State University on a full athletic scholarship, wind up making millions (well, at least hundreds of thousands) on Twitter's video sharing app? "I was bored at home," he explains. That boredom prompted him to download the Vine app in May 2013, make a few videos and share them with his friends.
"I started with zero followers, they were just my friends. And then they would send their friends, and then their friends...soon I was getting 50,000 followers in a day," he says. Today, his total followers hover around 13 million. Yes, you read that right.
THR asked King Bach for three tips others can use to mimic his success on Vine. For Bachelor, you only need one: "Be Funny."
