Breyon Prescott Forms New Label at Island Def Jam
Producer Breyon Prescott has just been tapped by Island Def Jam to set up his Chameleon Entertainment imprint at the major. Prescott, who has worked with Brandy, Jamie Foxx, Kanye West and others, previously presided over Chameleon as a subsidiary of Sony Music.
"Breyon is an experienced, smart and effective talent magnet, song maven and creative force," said Barry Weiss, chairman and CEO of IDJ, in a statement. "I look forward to working closely with him in this effort."
Prescott will report to Weiss in his new role at the company, which also includes that of exclusive A&R consultant for Def Jam Records.
The first album to be released by the new Chameleon entertainment will be the 2012 debut of Nikki Williams, a 22-year-old South African who wrote the song "Fly Away" from the soundtrack of the Gwyneth Paltrow vehicle, Country Strong. Williams also penned the song "Like My Mother Does," performed in the 2011 American Idol finals by Laura Alaina.
It is unclear if the artists previously signed to Chameleon while it was under Sony, including Brandy, will follow Prescott to Island Def Jam.
