Black Unemployment Rate Held Steady in October
The unemployment rate among African-Americans was at 9.2 percent for October 2015, according to a report released Friday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The Black jobless rate has remained steady at that number since September. The rate is almost double the national unemployment rate, which dropped .1 point to 5.0 percent, the lowest its been in seven years.
African-American teens between 16-19 years old have an unemployment rate of 25.6 percent, which dropped from 31.5 percent in September. Black women over 20 are unemployed at 8.1 percent, a small increase from 8.0 percent in September. Black men over 20 are unemployed at 9.2 percent, an uptick from 8.9 percent a month before.
Employers added 271,000 jobs in October. Economists suspect that the steady unemployment rate will influence the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates.
