Meek Mill has been having a rough time lately, but a new report suggests he could’ve turned his luck around if he had cooperated with authorities last year. According to The Inquirer, Meek had the chance to expose Judge Genece Brinkley — whom he alleged had a vendetta against him — but the plan fell short because the rapper refused to do so.

An initial FBI investigation was brought against Judge Brinkley in 2016 after Meek and his legal team claimed she had tried to extort him for favors, including mentioning her name in one of his songs. She allegedly revoked his probation as a result of his rejection. At the time of the ongoing investigation, the FBI reportedly approached the rapper about wearing a wire and recording his conversations with Brinkley in an attempt to find evidence of misconduct, but Meek denied the offer, The Inquirer reports. Shortly after, the investigation was dropped. 

It’s unclear why the MMG artist refused to comply with the FBI, but it could have altered his case significantly. In addition to the alleged misconduct, Brinkley has been a focal point in Meek’s legal situation. Brinkley has also denied Meek’s bail twice in the past month.

Earlier, social justice organizations, including #Cut50 and Color of Change, called for an ethics investigation into Brinkley, who they claim failed to file the appropriate financial disclosure forms. Meek’s lawyer, Joe Tacopina, has also filed a motion with the Superior Court to get the rapper’s first denial of bail overruled and asks that Brinkley be dismissed from the case.

As the plot thickens, Meek is still currently in a prison in Pennsylvania, assigned to kitchen duties.
