Entertainment News: Short Cuts: Vanessa Williams Gets “Ugly” With Rick Fox

Posted Aug. 6, 2007 - Vanessa Williams and ex-hubby Rick Fox are getting back together -- on screen, that is. The former NBA star-turned actor snagged a gig playing the bodyguard to Williams' ever-scheming character Wilhelmina Slater on ABC's Ugly Betty, sources say. Bodyguard, huh?

Things get heated [between their characters]," a source told People. We bet they do.

Fox, who has been focusing on his acting career since retiring from the NBA in 2004, will be on the show for at least two episodes. The one-time L.A. Laker is also honing his executive producing skills with an untitled drama series on AMC about the lives of professional basketball players.

Williams, who earned an Emmy nod for her "Betty" role, divorced Fox in 2005. The couple has a 7-year-old daughter, Sasha, together.

"L&O" Star Turns to Directing

Tamara Tunie, best known for her long-running role as Dr. Melinda Warner on "Law and Order: SVU," is making her feature directorial debut with an indie romantic comedy. "See You September" centers on a successful Manhattan woman who's in therapy to deal with her fear of commitment. Just as she's on the verge of a breakthrough, her therapist goes on vacation for the entire month of August, prompting her to organize group therapy for other patients similarly ditched by their therapists going on vacation. Estella Warren and Justin Kirk ("Weeds") will star.

Thandie Newton Reveals Eating Disorder

Pursuit of Happyness" star Thandie Newton says that low self-esteem and a string of abusive relationships sunk her into an eating disorder in her early 20s.

I had terrible bulimia for about a year," the 34-year-old, British-born actress tells the U.K.'s Easy Living magazine in its September issue. "I've still got the scars on my knuckles from where I put my fingers down my throat.

Newton says her obsession started as early as 14, training for her ballet exams and eating "nothing but cottage cheese." Later into adulthood, the shame she felt dating an older man, and a second relationship with an emotionally abusive boyfriend led her to begin throwing up her food.  She sought therapy while shooting a film in Los Angeles, where she says she made the connection between shame and self abuse.

Newton married screenwriter Ol Parker in 1998, and lives in northwest London with their two daughters: 6-year-old Ripley and 2-year-old Nico.
