Seven Women Step Forward Accusing DJ Tim Westwood Of Sexual Misconduct
Famous DJ Tim Westwood is facing serious accusations as seven women have stepped forward claiming the radio host displayed predatory sexual behavior and groping at events according to The Guardian.
The women, who are all Black, shared they were in their teens or late 20s when the incidents took place, sharing their traumatic experiences with the BBC and The Guardian with the incidents ranging between 1992 and 2017.
A spokesperson on behalf of the BBC shared a statement.
“The BBC is against all forms of inappropriate behavior and we are shocked to hear of these allegations. The BBC has strict codes of conduct for all those engaged by the BBC, including on-air presenters.”
One of the women said she doesn’t want to carry any “shame” for being naive in the situation.
“Someone taking advantage of my naivety and lack of confidence isn’t something that I should have to carry with shame.”
Westwood has denied the claims.
Three of the women have accused Westwood of “opportunistic and predatory sexual behavior” when they agreed to meet him, assuming they would be discussing the music industry or their own work. They were 17, 19, and 20 at the time.
The other four women claim the DJ groped them while they were having a picture taken with him after one of his nightclub performances.
All the ladies have asked to keep their identities hidden and have no connection to each other.
The BBC has reported the DJ has stepped down from his position as a radio host for Captial Xtra’s radio show.
Earlier on Wednesday, the BBC director-general, Tim Davie described the testimony of the women as "powerful and appalling", and encourages anyone with evidence to come forward.
