7 Movies With Important Life Lessons For Men
The past few decades have been some of the greatest years for modern film. Hollywood (and independent filmmakers) have given us cinematic gold in every genre imaginable and some of the best of these creations are as entertaining as they are informational. Each has given us quotable and memorable moments and here we share seven movies with important life lessons for men (in no particular order):
'Remember The Titans'
It's not just another cliché sports movie, and it making this list is not a cliché. Remember The Titans is packed with life lessons not just for men, but for any person (as are all of the features on this list). In the scene above, the teams are motivated to a higher standard when faced with unfair and unreasonable odds — a true testament to the strength it takes to be even better when the proverbial they don't want to see you win.
'The Godfather'
This movie is the definition of a classic. While it's easy to get swept up in the story and masterful dialogue of The Godfather, the themes it explores are essential. From honor to loyalty to diplomacy to respect and, of couse, family, you could write a book on all of the keys this movie is handing out. Even Jay-Z was inspired by the trilogy on the song "Family Feud:"
"A man that don't take care his family can't be rich
I'll watch Godfather, I miss that whole s**t."'I Think I Love My Wife'
Love, sex, relationships and marriage can all be beautiful things, but they aren't without their challenges. That's what the Chris Rock-written, -produced and -directed I Think I Love My Wife illustrates so well. The movie presents the issue that many men face when both parties in a relationship become exhausted and fail to make intimacy a priority, but does so in a comedic way that only Chris Rock (and the talented actors) can. Quotes:
"You can lose lots of money chasing women, but you will NEVER lose women chasing money."
"Life is about choice. We are the sum of our choices. And most of them are made for us. You can't choose when you're born. You can't choose where you are born. You can't choose your family. You can't even choose who you love. But you can choose how you love."

'The Pursuit of Happyness'
That's right, happyness (it'll make sense when you watch the movie). Will Smith is known for heavy-hitting movie masterpieces, but there's something about this one that really drives home the theme of raw determination and doing whatever one has to do in order to succeed — for themselves and for their family. Not to mention, The Pursuit of Happyness is inspired by true events. Will and young Jaden Smith bring their father-son bond to the big screen to help tell a story that inspires when the chips are down and things seem bleak. Quote:
"You got a dream... You gotta protect it. People can't do somethin' themselves, they wanna tell you you can't do it. If you want somethin', go get it. Period."
'Fight Club'
We're risking it all and breaking the first rule of Fight Club, but it's worth it to add it to the list. This movie takes some poignant stances on modern society, and forces us to take a look in the mirror and question our inclinations toward consumerism, passivity, depression and more. The scene above is the centerpoint of much of the movie's messaging, but the entire film is filled with quality action and dialogue. One of the most memorable quotes:
"The things you own end up owning you."
'Space Jam'
Now, before you assume that Space Jam is only good for nostalgia and a few laughs, really think about the message it's driving home: confidence and belief in yourself is key. When the squad needed motivation, they drank what they thought was Jordan's secret energy drink to help them win. When they find out that it was just water the entire time, the Tune Squad carried on to victory against the Monstars. The best part about this movie is that it's friendly for all ages, so you can have the young ones pick up some gems, too.

'School Daze'
There's something for everyone in this Spike Lee joint. From hair to complexion to politics, School Daze paints accurate and over-the-top descriptions of its characters, which is the perfect call to action for us to each take a look in the mirror. The most iconic quote:
"WAKE UP!"
Tune in to BET's Mancave Thursday nights at 10:30/9:30C as the team chops it up, and shares knowledge and wisdom from their perspectives.
