BET's latest original digital docu-series, Vixen, is slated to premiere in full on Friday. However, the first installment leading up to the full release is live and it centers around the initial rise of the video vixen era and the power these women had in the hip hop industry.

The first episode, titled "That Girl: In The Rise Of Hip Hop's Most Extravagant Era, A New Star Was Born...," sees several infuential figures and vixens who lived and thrived during this time share their stories of what the atmosphere was like at such a euphoric period in hip hop.

"We were the aesthetic," former video vixen Melyssa Ford said. "We were part of the fabric."

The power the models held often goes overlooked, but as those featured in the clip stressed, they were considered of equal value to the talent.

"Women were getting paid like rappers," managed Amina Diop added. "Those days were cut short very quickly."
