George Foreman: Manny Pacquiao Will Beat Floyd Mayweather
George Foreman sees Manny Pacquiao defeating Floyd Mayweather Jr. in their long-awaited mega bout on May 2nd.
Holding court on a media conference call Thursday, the ex-heavyweight champion of the world sees Pacman coming out strong and dictating the action, winning the first six rounds. Foreman thinks the seventh will be closer, but that Mayweather will get going too late and will suffer his first loss ever.
More than anything, Foreman doesn't think Mayweather's high-shoulder defense and overall counter-punching style will work against a high-volume puncer like Pacquiao.
"The story of a counter puncher is they're not going to do anything until you do something. With a counter puncher against Pacquiao, you're going to have to throw hard shots, get him dizzy and go for the finish two or three times. That's what Mayweather's going to have to do," Foreman told BET.com as part of the conference call. "He's going to hit now, hit later, he's going to have to throw combinations. You're not going to get a knockout that easily, but try anyway early on to stay ahead on points."
He adds that Mayweather is going to really have to fight to win May 2nd at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
"He can only raise that shoulder and use that counter punch if somebody is attacking him," he continued. "Pacquiao is really a pot-shot artist. He jabs you, moves to the side, sticks his head in and throws a punch from different angles. It's hard to throw a counter punch in. It's not that easy. Mayweather is a defensive genius, but believe me, to win these rounds, he's going to have to become an offensive technician."
