Shaunie And Keion Henderson On Life As Newlyweds And Learning Each Other’s Love Language!
Life as newlyweds has been “amazing” for Shaunie and Keion Henderson! While chatting with BET Lifestyle about their new reality series Shaunie & Keion’s Destination ‘I Do'—a three-part wedding special on VH1—the lovebirds shared some insight on their relationship since tying the knot on the picturesque island of Anguilla.
“Amazing, amazing! We're having a good time,” Shaunie happily shared with us about her new life as Mrs. Henderson. “I've never been in a relationship where we sit down and talk about our goals, write them down together, figure out how to intertwine them and make them one. It's a journey that I am enjoying every minute of!”
Pastor Keion echoed his wife’s sentiments, adding their relationship is built on love and a solid understanding of unity.
“We're not intoxicated by new because if you get intoxicated by new then you'll be disappointed by old,” he explained. “I swear to you, we don't even consider ourselves nor do we talk about being newlyweds because it doesn't matter. We want to keep it new, keep it fresh, and do all we can to continuously learn each other. In five years we won't be the same people, we'll be newlyweds again. We're really focused on the day-by-day journey.”
When we asked what they love the most about each other, Keion happily revealed that he adores his wife’s sense of humor. “This lady is hilarious. People don't know, but my wife is funny, funny. She could be a comedian. She keeps me laughing,” he shared with a chuckle.
For Shaunie, she admires her husband's ability to inspire her. “I love that he makes me want to be better every day without saying anything or doing anything. Sometimes I like to just watch him and see how he moves and the decisions that he makes about different things. It triggers something in me to just want to be a better version of myself. I love that about him.”
Every couple has to learn each other's love language. Since marrying Shaunie in May, Keion says that he’s learned that his wife seriously appreciates quality time.
“I've learned that this lady needs quality time. She doesn't care about spending money—she’s never asked me for anything. But if you don't spend time with her you're gonna have an issue,” he candidly admitted.
Shaunie laughs and happily confirms her love language is definitely quality time, before adding she personally loves lengthy hugs from her husband. “They have to last 30 seconds—minimum,” Keion adds.
While Shaunie needs quality time and affection, the busy entrepreneur has learned that the way to her hubby’s heart is through a delicious home-cooked meal.
“If I cook this man a really good meal, the smile that lasts on his face for the next 24 hours is priceless,” she happily reminisces. “I’ve also learned how to communicate with him."
She continued, "I think everybody has a way of communicating and everybody has a way of listening and comprehending. It's still a process. I think I'm still learning it, but I've learned how to communicate with him in a way that he can receive it, hear it, digest it, and we can talk about it. One of the biggest things we consistently talk about is communication and keeping that line of communication open. It's a consistent process of learning how to communicate with each other. I think we almost have it down pat.”
