Ralph McDaniels Wants to Hear From Young People
Ralph McDaniels, the hip hop messiah behind the influential show Video Music Box, is calling out to all the young leaders of tomorrow.
On Saturday, April 26, McDaniels will be joining the urban organization “Leaders of Tomorrow Brooklyn” to conduct the 2014 Teen Summit. The event is set to happen between the hours of 1 to 5 p.m. at Brooklyn Borough Hall in Brooklyn, NY. The goal of the summit is to educate the younger generation through edutainment, a popular form of education combined with entertainment. McDaniels strives to inspire the young to be great by connecting them with celebrities and community leaders.
Aside from the soon to be announced musical talent that will be in attendance, African-Americans who are making history through a political lens will be there. "We have a new borough president, our first African-American borough president, in Brooklyn, Eric Adams," McDaniels told BET.com. "We have a district attorney who’s Black, Ken Thompson, first Black district attorney."
Both Adams and Thompson are expected to attend the summit to inform the young attendees about the ins and outs of the political system, as well as propose internships to help the youth get involved and steer clear of trouble.
However, young folks should not be put off by the political presence, because bridging the gap is another common goal on the agenda. “Not only do we want the young guys to recognize some of the older guys, but we want the older guys to respect what the young guys are doing,” said McDaniels. The event proposes an opportunity for pupils to take charge, and present a common space for all ages to get together and excel.
