San Diego Police Identify 23-Year-Old As Man Shot By Cop After Slitting His Own Throat
On Monday, San Diego police identified a man who was shot by a police officer last week after slitting his own throat as a 23-year-old musician and rapper.
According to police, reports came from a home around 10 p.m. on Jan. 3 that Ryan Bowers had cut his own throat with a knife. The person who called 911 told dispatchers they managed to get the knife away from Bowers, reported 10 News San Diego.
Police responded to the scene and were directed to a back bedroom of an apartment unit. In the room, Bowers produced another knife and raised it towards the officers, Lt. Dupree told reporters.
The officers then drew their weapons and ordered Bowers to drop the knife. According to police, Bowers advanced towards the officers with the knife drawn.
Bowers was then shot by Officer Matthew Steinbach.
“Fearing for his safety, one officer fired his weapon at the male striking him at least once,” police said.
The Officers administered medical aid to Bowers until paramedics arrived and transported him to a local hospital. Bowers, who suffered life-threatening injuries, remains in critical condition.
Nick Cannon posted a photo of himself with Bowers and singer Kehlani after the incident. Cannon revealed Bowers was a talented artist who faced his own demons.
