Tyrese Says He Passed on Empire Role
Tyrese checked in with The Breakfast Club this morning for a revealing conversation. The R&B ladies man told Angela Yee, Charlamagne tha God and DJ Envy that he and Taraji P. Henson were almost reunited once again on Empire.
Black Ty explained, "Truth be told I was supposed to do season one of Empire. I can't say what role, but I was in and out of court fighting over my little angel. And I just landed 50/50 joint legal custody and so I had to break the news to Lee [Daniels] and Taraji that I just couldn't make it. I couldn't go to Chicago for three or four weeks at a time while they were shooting when they hit me up."
During the conversation, Tyrese confessed that his sixth solo project, Black Rose, will be his last as he prepares to make it a momentous occasion. "I felt like a double album with a documentary, an [audio] book, and a movie that I just did starring myself and Jennifer Hudson ... I just feel like I needed to give the fans more than enough content as I gracefully bow out from music. Now I'm still going to sing, but this is my last solo album."
Black Rose drops July 7 on his own label, Voltron Recordz.
