South Jersey Woman Could Have The Largest Black Santa Collection of All-Time
If you’ve never seen Black Santa memorabilia, you have to check out the collection one South Jersey woman has accumulated over the last twenty years.
Crystal Kittles said her collection started 21 years ago when her husband bought home a musical box-embedded trinket as a housewarming gift.
"First year I moved into the home, I was out shopping and I came across this one. And I thought, 'Oh my God, I've never seen a Black Santa Claus,'" Kittles said to the local news station. "I thought it was just so unique and so nice to see a Santa Claus of the same color."
"From that time on, family and friends began to buy them for me," she continued. Two decades later and one could make the case that her collection of Black Santas tops the rest.
While her first husband ended up passing away, Kittles remarried and continued the tradition with him. According to WPVI, her favorites include a saxophone-playing Santa, a Malibu Beach Santa, a rapping Hip-Hop Santa, and a six-foot tall Santa statue. "So many different ones, but I've never taken the time to count them," she said. To me, it's not always about the gifts. It's just about the gathering, just seeing each other enjoying each other."
The collection has gotten so massive that once every two years, Kittles invites her local community to come take a gaze. It's even become a tradition to gather all the children and grandchildren for a day filled with Christmas music, food, and decorating.
According to Kittles, she hopes other children other than her family will be impacted by her collection as well and hopes to continue collecting little things depicting Santa Claus for many years to come.
